New breast cancer treatment offered at Chinook Regional
An innovative approach to breast cancer surgery has arrived in Lethbridge. On Tuesday, the Magseed and Magtrace Pilot Project implanted its first magnetically guided tumor localization seed—about the size of a grain of rice, followed by the first surgery on Wednesday.
Dr. David Stewart, Medical Director of the AHS South Zone, explains how this technology is transforming breast cancer surgery in southern Alberta.
Chinook Regional Hospital is second only to Calgary adopting this technology, joining a select group of Canadian hospitals bringing magnetic-guided tumour localization as the standard of care for patients facing breast cancer.
