25th Anniversary of Taber School Shooting

This Sunday will mark the 25-year anniversary of a tragedy that took place in the town of Taber, Alberta.

On April 28, 1999, a 14-year-old boy walked into W.R. Myers High School and began shooting. He shot and killed 17-year-old Jason Lang and injured another student who fortunately survived.

According to reports at the time, a gym coach wrestled the shooter to the ground. He was arrested by a Taber constable who was also the school’s resource officer.

Taber Mayor, Andrew Prokop, was a police officer when the incident occurred and says it is a tragedy the town will never forget.

It occurred eight days following the mass shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado where one teacher and 14 students were killed including the two shooters.
