Walk in support of schizophrenia awareness
A walk was held in Galt Gardens today with the aim of raising awareness about schizophrenia. The activity, which was organized by The Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SSC), also seeks to reduce stigma and support those affected by this mental illness. Wendy Bonertz, the Alberta Program Director at SSC gives us more details about their walk. According to The Schizophrenia Society of Canada as of September 19, 2023, 300 thousand Canadians suffer from schizophrenia. Although it affects men and women with equal frequency, schizophrenia most often appears in men in their late teens or early twenties, while it appears in women in their late twenties or early thirties.
