Taber Lost Paws Society starts operations with new animal shelter

The Taber Lost Paws Society has a new building after two years of fundraising to help out some of our four legged friends. Carolyn Terpstra is the Society’s President, and she says that even though they have a new building, the society still needs to fundraise for the outer portion of the building.

The building of the new facility started in September 2020, and the reason that the Taber Lost Paws Society was fundraising for a new animal shelter was because of the old one being in disrepair, “It was very small, and in need of repair. They needed a group of people to start a society to start this process to build a shelter,” says Terpstra.

There are 60 volunteers within the society, and the first operation day was on Friday, February 12.

“We still need to fundraise for everything that goes outside, like the outdoor kennels, perimeter fencing, the grass work, and landscaping,” adds Terpstra.

The Society is hoping to have a grand opening to the public by July of this year.

The fundraising for the shelter started in April of 2019, and the society has been doing bottle drives, running a steak and lobster night, and selling cakes and calendars.

Terpstra says that the society has just finished applying for a few grants as well, and it’s an ongoing process because all of the workers are volunteers.

As of now, the shelter will only house dogs.
