Taber expects Community Centre’s Large Ice arena to open in August

The southern Alberta town of Taber has provided an update to the reconstruction of their Community Centre following last winter’s arena explosion. The town, who received a funding boost thanks to winning the Kraft Hockeyville contest will look to reopen its large ice surface at the community centre by August 1^st, in time for the upcoming hockey season.

Asbestos abatement has been completed and repairs to the collapsed wall between the large and small arenas are underway. While the large arena is expecting a completion target this summer, a feasibility study is expected to be presented to town council this fall to determine the future of the small ice arena community centre as a whole. A completion date for the curling club is also still in the air.

The town says they’re looking forward to providing a timeline for Kraft Hockeyville festivities later, as planning for the event is still in the works.
