Students take on class video project to lift community’s spirit
90s shows may not be the most popular topic with teenagers in the year of 2021, but a school in Lethbridge has put its own spin on the classic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing students to be in class cohorts this year, one group of students at G.S Lakie Middle School wasn’t going to let that stop them from creating their own version of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
Kristi Legge, is a teacher and director of the music video, she says the project was in collaboration with one of their classes.
Students created their own lyrics and dance moves throughout the month-long process, with some of the meetings taking place on Zoom. Legge says along with the students, different staff and community members joined in on the fun.
One of the students featured in the video, Marley Clark, says the process took a lot of trial and error before the final product was recorded.
Legge adds the goal of the video was to create a positive experience for the students and to lift their spirits.
