Weapons report prompts Southside school-lockdown, youth in custody

Multiple southside schools were placed under external lockdown Tuesday afternoon as Lethbridge Police investigated a possible weapons complaint, with one male youth later taken into custody.

St. Francis Junior High School, Catholic Central High School, Ecole St. Mary and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute were the schools affected.

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division also sent a letter to parents and guardians at several schools, informing them about the lockdown and asking them not to come to the schools while police handled the situation. Despite that request, parents could be seen outside some of the schools as the lockdown remained in place.

At 2:30 p.m., police informed the public that the external lockdowns at all four schools had been lifted. The investigation remains ongoing.
