Low sense of community belonging among Canadians

The fact that people do not feel a sense of belonging to their community is an issue that concerns many. A survey conducted by the YMCA Canada found that 60 per cent of Canadians feel disconnected from their community. The executive director of this Lethbridge group, Jennifer Petracek-Kolb, says around 16 per cent of people surveyed said they have never felt a sense of community. She explains why folks are feeling a bit of a disconnect. The research is from a survey of 1501 Canadians under the age of 55 conducted from August 29 to September 3.

Heidi was born in Bogota, Colombia and lived there until she was 18, then she moved to Caracas, Venezuela where she finished her bachelor's degree in journalism. Since 2010 she covered political issues related to the government of former president Hugo Chávez and his political opponents, management, death and transition to a new government. In 2024, she joined at Bridge City News team as a Video Journalist to produce a wide range of stories including those which are faith based glorifying Jesus Christ.
