Lethbridge property owners to pay additional $117 more in provincial tax

As part of Budget 2026, the City is reminding residents of some tax increases they need to be aware of.

The Provincial Education Property Tax will increase 12.9% in Lethbridge, meaning an increase of $117 for an average single-family detached household worth $389,000. The City is stressing that this increase is separate and does not overlap with the 5.1% municipal property tax increase for this year, and that they have no control over how much gets charged.

Along with decreased funding for infrastructure and pressures from costs in changes in the Traffic Safety Act and body-worn cameras, the City says the latest budget is posing challenges ahead of discussions for the 2027 municipal operating budget. The provincial Budget is expected to pass on March 31st.
