Interfaith Food Bank address food insecurity issues during SACPA presentation

Danielle McIntyre, the Executive Director of the Interfaith Food Bank, was on hand at SACPA Thursday speaking about food insecurity issues in Lethbridge. She spoke about how food banks in Alberta have seen a significant increase in the use of their services over the past couple of years. McIntyre says locally, they have seen about a 30 per cent increase in the number of people who need food and hopes her presentation encourages more people to get involved to help those most in need.

“As we head into the colder winter months, we know that number is going to continue to go up. So it’s a really great timing with Thanksgiving this weekend that we’re able to encourage people to be grateful for what they have and think about others who might not have as much. Grocery costs are out of hand and more and more people are in need of food bank services. So I’m here to advocate on behalf of the food bank and encourage people to get involved with us.”

Last week, Food Banks Canada released their Poverty Report Card. Almost every province failed. Alberta, meanwhile, received a D grade.
