Hurricanes open training camp with need of filling roster

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have begun training camp this week ahead of the 2025/26 season, with an expectation that the team’s main roster will look very different from last year.

A total of 51 players are attending rookie camp that opened on Thursday, plus an additional 33 players from the main camp. Many notable veterans of the team have since aged out of the league and have gone to sign pro contracts elsewhere, including Brayden Edwards, Vojtech Port, and Leo Braillard. Outgoing head coach Bill Peters has been replaced by Matt Anholt, who says he’s excited being back on the ice and meeting the new selection of players.

About five players attending training camp this year are from the Lethbridge area, including Kade Duell from Taber. The 19-year-old says after coming to camp two years ago, his goal now is to obtain a spot on the main roster.

The Canes will open the preseason with back-to-back games at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena this coming Tuesday and Wednesday at 7PM each night.
