Friends of Medicare protest Alberta’s-Bill-11, over two-tier care

The group Friends of Medicare is holding what it calls a National Day of Action to oppose two-tiered healthcare, in particularly Alberta’s Bill 11. That bill would allow doctors to work in both public and private healthcare sectors.

The group wants Ottawa to clamp down and enforce the Canada Health Act. Friends of Medicare protested Monday outside the offices of Liberal MPs for Edmonton Centre and Calgary Confederation.

The chair of the Friends of Medicare Calgary Chapter, Keira Gunn, says today’s protests highlight Bill 11’s potential impact on access and equality in health care.

Opponents continue to say Bill 11 contravenes multiple provisions of the Canada Health Act, including the ban on user fees.
