Fire officials remain on alert for grassfires
Here in southwestern Alberta, officials at Lethbridge County say they still remain on alert for any grassfires although our region has seen some rain in the past week. Officials with the county say a grassfire even sparked on Wednesday night due to a lightning strike and they are urging residents to take precautions when it comes to fires.
“For the most part if you follow the rules set out in most of the burn permits. Just be cautious. Have something there that if a spark gets away, you can quickly douse it because when they’re small, they’re quite easily manageable it’s when they kind of get away from you. Stay away from windy days and yeah, keep it where you know you can control it because it can get big really fast.”
Alberta Wildfire says more than 850,000 hectares of land have burned so far this wildfire season.
