Fence added after encampment clean-up
A massive cleanup at a Lethbridge tent encampment was completed on Wednesday. A fence was also installed at the tent site by the Civic Centre Track here in our city. The encampment was also the site of a shooting earlier this year in July when two men got into a heated altercation. It resulted in one of the men getting shot in the leg. Homeless advocates are saying that not enough is being done to help out our city’s most vulnerable. Video Journalist Micah Quinn has the details.
UPDATE: Staff from the Lethbridge Police Service say that none of the members of the tent encampment were arrested or given fines on Wednesday.
As well, an LPS officer was able to assist a female occupant of the encampment by getting her a place to stay. He contacted a local organization and they were able to provide a bed for her.
