Applying Blockchain in a world of technology

The University of Lethbridge has announced a new minor for the Dhillon School of Business. The program will be focused on Financial Technology and Innovation. Fintech has impacted the financial services industry and led to retail and commercial banking along with wealth management. The Associate Professor of Finance at the Dhillon School of Business says the purpose of this minor is to equip students with the knowledge they need when it comes to technology. This is done through programs incorporating cryptocurrency companies like Blockchain.

“Something that we’ve talked about a lot is how do we apply blockchain to smart contracts. For example when you buy a car, how are you going to guarantee yourself that that individual that’s selling you the car is actually the true owner of the car? If you put that stuff on a blockchain, that record is unchangeable once it’s on the blockchain. It can’t be changed. The history is actually publicly available for individuals to see.”

The minor will be open to students in next year’s fall semester.
