The vast majority of politicians supported government health mandates and lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, some enthusiastically supported it. However, one former Ontario MPP did not. Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston) originally faced 25 charges for speaking up against the mandates. Many of the charges have been dropped by the Crown, but he was in court recently to answer to the remining charges. Hillier says the Crown argued that if the Charter of Rights and Freedoms were to be violated everywhere, then those violations would be lawful everywhere.
