Council approves permanent proclamation for Sisters in Spirit Day

Lethbridge City Council voted 8-1 to approve a permanent proclamation of an annual Sisters in Spirit Day on October 4th. It would honour missing and murdered Indigenous women and children. For 15 years, a collaboration of Lethbridge organizations and individuals have organized and planned the Sisters in Spirit Vigil.

Councillor Belinda Crowson, who brought forward the motion, says the proclamation shows the City’s continued support for Sisters in Spirit.

This is the first proclamation Lethbridge City Council has enacted as an ongoing declaration, unlike other proclamations which need to be passed with a majority consent from council on a yearly basis.
