Alberta doctor has advice on physician shortage

A recent study by the Alberta Medical Association found that more than 650 thousand Albertans need a family physician. The same study also found that more than 90 per cent of doctors are concerned about the financial viability of their practices. Another 61 per cent are thinking of leaving the Alberta healthcare system altogether. One Alberta doctor says a solution to address our province’s doctor shortage may be bringing in internationally trained medical graduates many of whom are Canadian citizens. Dr. Omar Kadri is a doctor who received his medical education overseas. He is a Canadian who studied medicine at St. George’s University in Grenada and was trained in the U.S. He explains why he went overseas to get his medical training.
