Access-A-Ride negotiations at critical stage

Access-A-Ride workers in Lethbridge have taken the first step toward a potential strike after bargaining reached an impasse.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 987, which represents Access-A-Ride workers, said the move comes after months of exhausting negotiations with Lethbridge Transit.

The president of the ATU, Travis Oberg says Lethbridge Transit’s unwillingness to withdraw concessionary proposals continues to be an obstacle.

On the other side, the City of Lethbridge says “the City and its bargaining team have been working hard to progress towards agreement on a new Collective Agreement with its Access-A- Ride workers represented by the ATU. The city looks forward to continuing this work towards a new Collective Agreement. ATU has chosen to seek the assistance of a mediator. The city confirms it is awaiting dates for this and is ready to return to the bargaining table as soon as possible to reach a fair deal”.
