AB. NDP leader responds to photo radar changes

The Alberta government says it is eliminating the photo radar cash cow. Officials say photo radar will be taken down in areas that specifically generate revenue and do not offer traffic safety benefits. Transport Minister Devin Dreeshen says as of April 1st of next year, ticketing on numbered provincial highways will end as photo radar will be restricted to school, playground and construction zones. Alberta’s opposition leader, Naheed Nenshi, says he was disappointed with Minister Dreeshen’s comments. He says the money that will be lost due to the changes in photo radar will now fall on the backs of the municipalities. Nenshi says that could lead to property tax increases and impact police budgets across Alberta
