Raising awareness on Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking Awareness Day was observed across the country on Sunday. It’s a day to raise awareness about the issue and support survivors. In Alberta, Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, said, “we recognize the strength of survivors and the dedication of those working every day to prevent exploitation”.
Meanwhile, here in Lethbridge, Kristine Cassie, CEO of Chinook Sexual Assault Centre, shared her thoughts.
According to Statistics Canada, between 2013 and 2023, 93% of the victims of human trafficking were women and girls, while 7% were men and boys. 42% of the victims were between 18 to 24 years old.
