ALERT warns parents about children’s access to A.I.

Summer is here, which means kids will be home for the holidays, allowing them to manipulate their devices even more. Due to the growing trend of child sexual abuse material (images and videos created using AI technology), Alert is sending a gentle but important reminder to parents about predators using AI to extort their victims. Heather Bangle, from Alert’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit, says in 2024, Canada prosecuted nearly 4,000 sexually explicit deepfake images and videos of children and young people.

Bangle says one in 10 children says they know someone whose image has been deepfaked.
