Sexual health Information should come from good sources
So, where do today’s youth aged 15 to 17 get their sexual health information? According to Stats Canada 85 per cent of our young people say they have gone to an adult for help or advice about puberty, sexual development and sexual health. What happens, however, when, out of shyness or fear, young people get information from the wrong source? Kristine Cassie, the CEO with the Lethbridge Chinook Sexual Assault Centre, explains what the consequences are when young people don’t receive the correct information. Cassie says the best sources for receiving adequate information about sexual health are parents, the sexual assistance centre, and the sexual and reproductive program of Alberta Health Services. She also says there is a sexual education program within the school system, also carried out by AHS.
