Young women explore skilled trades in interactive career-camp
Skilled trades were once considered male-dominated careers and are now increasingly attracting more women. In Canada, this shift is reflected in a steady rise in female participation. Here in southern Alberta, Careers: The Next Generation is helping drive that change through hands-on career exploration. Its Young Women in Trades and Technologies Camp is designed to introduce participants to high-demand careers in the skilled trades. Female students in Grades 10–12 explored a wide range of industries, gaining practical experience in areas such as autobody repair, sheet metal, welding, plumbing, culinary arts, electrical work, carpentry, and digital media technology.
