Waterton Lakes, Glacier National Park certified as International Dark Sky Park

Waterton Lakes National Park and Glacier National Park in Montana have received full certification as an International Dark Sky Park. The certification from the International Dark Sky Association follows the installation of dark sky-friendly custom LED lights are more efficient and aims to reduce harmful impacts of artificial lighting on wildlife, protect human health. 

 

External Relations Manager, Waterton Lakes Field Unit, Parks Canada, Parks Canada, Christy Gustavison, says the new lights are a great way for visitors and stargazers to view the night skies.

 

The new lights were part of the Federal Infrastructure funding that Waterton Lakes received a few years ago from the federal government as a way to replace current infrastructure, with sustainability top of mind.
