On Thursday, multiple athletes with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns were handed team and individual awards at the annual Blue and Gold Awards Banquet. As the varsity sports season concludes, the University has recognized the accomplishments for some of their athletes who went on to earn significant achievements.
Notable accomplishments include Female Athlete of the Year, Jinaye Shomachuk, who set a USPORTS record in women’s weight throw, and captured multiple gold medals at Canada West and USPORTS Championships. And Male Athlete of the Year, Kymani Pollard, led Canada West in Men’s basketball scoring, and will be taking his talents to the pro level next year.
Other big recipients include Male Rookie of the Year, Xander McIntyre in Soccer, and Female Rookie of the Year, Grace Hitchcock in swimming. Track and Field coach, Larry Steinke, was named Coach of the Year.
