Today marks the National Day of Mourning for fallen workers

Today is the National Day of Mourning, a time to remember those who lost their lives due to a workplace incident, illness or injury. Every year, awareness campaigns are carried out to highlight this issue. However, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Joseph Schow says Alberta registered 144 workplace deaths in 2025. Behind every death is a family forever changed, a workplace impacted, and a community left grieving. Meanwhile, Workplace Safety Specialist Tim Scott says the day also serves as a reminder that every worker deserves to return home safely, and preventing future tragedies must remain a shared responsibility of employers, workers and governments alike.
