Thieves steal $47,100 of gold in Lethbridge Mall

A couple from Edmonton have been charged by Lethbridge Police with the theft of more than 47 thousand dollars’ worth of gold chains.

The break-in at the Park Place Mall happened on August 23rd at about 5:30 a.m. Police say a man was caught on video surveillance breaking into the mall. He proceeded to smash a window into the Paris Jewelers and steel over $47,000 in gold jewelry.

After the smash and grab he left the mall and climbed into a waiting Dodge Caravan. Police were able to locate another video of two suspects checking out other jewelry stores in the mall and identified them as Edmonton residents wanted and charged in similar jewelry store thefts in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The Dodge Caravan was found abandoned outside Lethbridge the day after the robbery. Police say after the robbery the two suspects purchased an RV in the city and left.

A search for that RV led police to Warman, Saskatchewan where the two were arrested on September 1st. In the ensuing search, police recovered 57 diamond rings linked to previous jewelry store break-ins and also discovered a gold smelter inside the vehicle.

39-year-old Waylon Chuck Tourangeau and 34-year-old Brianna Marcella Bouchie are each charged with shopbreaking and committing theft. Tourangeau remains in custody in Saskatchewan while Bouchie has been released.
