Taber wins Kraft Hockeyville 2026

Folks in the southern Alberta town of Taber are celebrating a big win today. Saturday during “Hockey Night in Canada”. Taber was selected the winner of Kraft Hockeyville 2026.  Taber was chosen through a nationwide vote to host the program’s 20th anniversary and is the first community from Alberta to win the contest since Sylvan Lake in 2014.

Taber will now receive 250-thousand dollars to repair the damaged Taber Community Centre, after an explosion last December caused significant structural damage and forced the temporary closure of the facility.

The center will host an NHL preseason game in the fall of 2027. Taber also receives ten-thousand dollars in new equipment for youth hockey players. Taber Mayor, Andrew Prokop, says this victory represents a huge achievement for the community.

Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia came in second place. That community will receive 100 thousand dollars for an upgrade to its arena and $10,000 in youth hockey equipment.
