Stats Canada report says 461,240 veterans in Canada

A new report by Stats Canada is providing some much needed insight into our veteran population here in Canada. A total of 97,625 Canadians were counted as serving in the Canadian Armed Forces and 461,240 were counted as veterans. Glenn Miller, the co-chair of the public relations committee for the Lethbridge Legion, says there are a high number of legion members and veterans who live right here in our city.

“We roughly have 1,000 members, of which a third of that are veterans. Of those veterans, many of them do not consider themselves veterans. Many veterans today when you hear the term modern day veteran, will have a different interpretation for every veteran. A modern day veteran might only be the last five years or 35 years ago.”

While more than four in 10 Veterans were seniors aged 65 and older, almost one-third were in the core working age group of 25 to 54.
