Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign kicks-off this week

You’ll soon be hearing the sound of jingle bells as you shop, reminding you to make a donation to the famous red kettle.

This Thursday, November 23rd, the Salvation Army Lethbridge kicks off its annual Christmas Kettle campaign at Park Place Mall, both Walmarts, Superstore, Save-on Foods and Costco (beginning Dec 9th).

An official kick-off campaign event is also being held this Saturday, November 25th, at the Salvation Army Thrift store located at 1811 2nd Avenue south (with a 50% store wide sale).

Lieutenant Zach Marshall says this Christmas season they’re hoping to raise $100,000 through their kettles and another $150,000 through in-kind giving in just Lethbridge alone.

“Every cent that we raise in Lethbridge stays in Lethbridge for our programming throughout the year,” he says, adding “we’re very well known for our community outreach so that’s where that money will go.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle campaign began 134 years ago in San Francisco, and has grown into one of the world’s most significant and recognizable charitable events.

In addition, the Salvation Army Lethbridge is operating its Toys for Tots program as part of this year’s Christmas Hope campaign, in collaboration with other five other non-profits organizations.
