Overdose deaths reach decade-low in Lethbridge

National Addiction Awareness Week runs this week, and according to provincial statistics, the number of overdose deaths in the Lethbridge area has fallen to a decade low.

The city witnessed its grimmest year in overdose deaths in 2023, with 118 recorded fatalities. But in the first seven months of 2025, only six were recorded, a 93 percent drop from 2023 and on pace to match the lowest level of deaths in nine years.

Fresh Start Recovery recently marked two years since the opening of the Lethbridge Recovery Centre. The Executive Director of Fresh Start says efforts from the community and the provincial government have proven to bear fruit but says the work is not done.
