New multi-sport dome to be built at UofL

The University of Lethbridge has made a major sports-related announcement this week.

The university is planning to build a $13.5 million dollar multi-sport air-supported dome on campus. Part of the funding, $1.15 million, is coming from the University’s Students Union.

The dome will be located immediately north of the existing Community Stadium, with a field house expected to also be constructed and attached to the dome. The University says this new complex will also be open to community groups and the general public.

Neil Langevin, the Executive Director of Pronghorn Athletics and Recreation Services says, “The demand for quality indoor training, community activity and recreational facility space is overwhelming on campus and throughout southern Alberta. The Multi-Sport Dome will help meet those needs and added to the Community Sports Stadium and the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness, the new facility further establishes ULethbridge as a community hub for sport and recreation.”

The nearly 128,000 square foot dome will feature a huge turf field, two sports courts designed for futsal, tennis, pickleball, basketball, and a multi-lane track.

Construction is expected to start next spring with the grand opening planned for August of 2027.
