McCain Foods invests millions into Coaldale factory

McCain Foods is making a huge investment at its factory in Lethbridge County. The company will be putting in a $600 million expansion to double the size of the facility and output. Company officials say it will be the biggest investment in their history. The project will create 260 new jobs along with new state-of-the-art production lines. Once it’s fully operational, the factory will double its workforce to 485 positions. Coaldale Mayor Jack van Rijn says this is a pretty big deal for his town.

“As a municipality that neighbors McCain’s Foods, we are very delighted that McCain Foods is choosing to make Lethbridge County the destination for what will be their largest capital investment in the past 65 years. So as part of their press release, they named Coaldale, but in fact, the facility is actually being built in Lethbridge County and we are the closest municipality to McCain’s Foods and we’ve had a long lasting relationship with them,” said Jack Van Rijin, Mayor for the Town of Coaldale.

Other parts of the expansion will include wind turbines and solar panels.  Construction on the McCain Foods expansion in Lethbridge County will begin later this year.
