LPS charge two youth over weapons threat at movie theatre

Some movie goers in Lethbridge had a bit of a scare over the weekend after police locked down the Galaxy Cinemas in our city due to a weapons theat.

According to the Lethbridge Police Service, they received a call at around 9:15 PM on Saturday night that an unknown male and female had chased and threatened a group of teenaged girls with a gun while in the lobby of the movie theatre. Upon arrival, police locked down and searched the theatre located in Park Place Mall, locating the subjects alongside a can of bear spray and a satchel containing a Glock-style handgun that was confirmed to be a BB gun.

Police have charged a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl with multiple offences but cannot name them under conditions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

BCN reached out to both LPS and Galaxy Cinemas who were each unable to provide further comment.
