Lifeguard shortage affecting YMCA

The YMCA says they have been experiencing a bit of a lifeguard shortage. Officials say the shortfall is due to many university students who have come for school and then leave after graduation along with COVID-19 affecting their courses for lifeguard training. 

“So having properly trained lifeguards, they’re really there to prevent incidences from happening in the first place. So that’s why we’re asking people to walk on the pool deck and then they are there if something happens, they are able to rescue and have that knowledge so that people have the best results.”

Officials say the YMCA is looking to bring on at least ten more lifeguards.
