Lethbridge wins big at Dragon Boat Championships

Six Canadian paddlers from Lethbridge did their country proud earlier this month earning top hardware in the International Dragon Boat Federation World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Thailand. Video Journalist Micah Quinn met up with a few of the winners at Henderson Lake on Tuesday morning to chat about their success.

Canada’s National team brought home 52 gold, 36 silver and 13 bronze medals at the event. China and the United States rounded off the top three spots with 30 and 24 gold medals respectively.

Mia Chalmet competed in the U-18 category and won two gold and two silver medals with her team.

Linda Gilbert also brought home several medals under the Senior C level.

Gilbert says the training in Lethbridge to prepare for the championships was top notch and allowed the team to compete at a high level during this year’s games.

Canada has brought home a total of 467 standard boat medals over the course of 14 IDBF World Championships, which is more than double the next closest nation.
