Under the Rural Renewal Stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, eligible employers have the ability to seek out employees who are not permanent residents of Alberta. This is all being run through Economic Development Lethbridge who applied for a community designation to make this happen. An official with Economic Development Lethbridge says this comes as job vacancies have been on the rise.
“I think we had north of 6,000 here in the Lethbridge Medicine Hat area as of relatively recently. And we’ve seen big ramp ups across many different sectors. So we’re hearing the message loud and clear that employers around here require assistance. We don’t suspect that this will be a magic bullet or any sort of panacea, but we do think that it’s just another piece of the puzzle that could help employers in need.”
The program officially launched on Friday.
