The vote for non-confidence in the Trudeau government was defeated on Parliament Hill. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre brought forth the motion to declare non-confidence in the prime minister and his government increasing the carbon tax by 23 per cent on April first. Poilievre says it is part of the Trudeau government’s plan to quadruple the tax while Canadians cannot afford to eat, heat and house themselves. He called for the House to be dissolved so Canadians can vote in a carbon tax election. In the end the motion was defeated 204 to 116. Liberal, NDP and many Bloc MPs voted against the motion while Conservative MPs voted for it. That includes Lethbridge MP Rachael Thomas who explained to BCN’s Hal Roberts why she was disappointed in the vote on the Hill.
