Lethbridge elementary honours Truth and Reconciliation through mural
A ribbon mural has gone up at Our Lady of the Assumption School here in Lethbridge. Officials with the school say it’s their way of recognizing Truth and Reconciliation week. It was Kristen Shade’s idea to make the mural. She is the First Nations Facilitator with the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division. Shade says it’s important for students to have a better understanding of what happened during the residential school system.
“This is one of a very yeah. A sensitive topic, I want to say, and I want to always create awareness and know let my kids know. My students know that it is always good to educate themselves, even though that they may not know about residential schools, but they are in the future through junior high, through high school, they’re going to know more and more about this.”
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is coming up on Saturday.
