The city has officially opened a new ice skating rink downtown in Festival Square. It is the first of its kinds in the city. City officials announced the new addition last week after hearing from community members about the need for an ice rink. An official with the BRZ says they are happy to open the area and welcome skaters.
“As we continue to engage Festival Square, of which we’re so incredibly proud and so incredibly lucky to have. We conceived of this idea of setting up a temporary ice rink to persuade folks to continue to enjoy the outside and whatever downtown has to offer, regardless of the weather. Yes, we just we just want to activate all year and encourage folks to enjoy the outside during the winter time in healthy activity, fun activity like skating,” said Sarah Amies, Executive Director, Downtown Lethbridge Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ).
The Festival Square ice rink will be open daily from 9 a.m., to 11 p.m.
