Lethbridge and United Way commemorates National 211 Day

The City of Lethbridge will join United Way in commemorating National 211 Day today, which aims to raise awareness for the role 211 provides to communities. 211 is a helpline and online database of Alberta’s community and social services.

According to 211 and United Way, 827 residents in Lethbridge were supported for basic needs, income and employment support, and mental health and addiction supports.

The lights at Lethbridge City Hall and other landmarks across Alberta will turn red this evening in commemoration of 211 Day.

Jaci Zalesak of United Way in Lethbridge, says that 211 quote: “provides communities with real-time insights into the emerging needs of our community, helping us respond more effectively and build stronger and more resilient communities.”

Nearly 2,000 needs in Lethbridge were met, including 504 for housing, shelter, and food; 372 for income support and 321 for mental health.

Landon Hickok

Landon is a recent graduate of the Radio and Television program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton. He previously obtained a diploma for Christian Ministries at Home Church Bible College in Red Deer, Alberta. For years since, he worked on church media with Home Church and later with City Life church in Leduc, Alberta, working on event live-streams and video productions. At NAIT, he was part of the student-run NAIT NewsWatch news program. Outside of news, he spent internships in Edmonton sports with the Oilers of the NHL and the Stingers of the CEBL. Now in Lethbridge, he’s here to produce stories to help inform all and to honour Jesus Christ with his work.
