Legion’s national poppy campaign shifts to permanent October 24 launch

The Royal Canadian Legion had already planned to launch its National Poppy Campaign earlier this year, before four soldiers were killed during last week’s training exercises at CFB Wainwright. The tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Canada’s military members. October 24 is now the campaign’s permanent launch date, with tap-to-donate boxes offering a convenient way to contribute. But as the communications co-chair for Lethbridge’s General Stewart Branch 4 explains, the campaign is about more than raising money.

Ahead of Remembrance Day, the branch will conduct a poppy flag raising ceremony and dedication service of the ‘Battle Honour Afghanistan’ which will be engraved on the cenotaph to kick off Veterans Week. The ceremony and dedication service along with military and city officials will take place November 4 at 10:45 a.m
