News Director​


Position Title:
News Director
Reporting to: Kalyn Steel, Director of Production
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Permanent
Location: Lethbridge, Alberta (Hybrid options available)
Start Date: Immediately

ABOUT THE POSITION

MCA Media Group is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and passionate leader to elevate our local daily news programming into a new era of impactful journalism and compelling news
commentary. As News Director, you will lead a dedicated team of journalists, manage editorial content for a daily TV newscast, and oversee the creation of engaging print and
video content for online distribution. This is an opportunity to shape the future of our newsroom and create content that resonates with our audience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement tools and processes to ensure an efficient newsroom and impactful, substantive content
  • Develop schedules and coordinate story assignments for the team
  • Oversee the entire production process, including writing, shooting, and assembling a daily one-hour with variations for evening, night and morning newscasts
  • Foster collaboration among team members and contributors, leveraging their unique strengths
  • Deliver a high-quality newscast seven days a week, with a focus on expanding and enhancing content

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Deep understanding of the organization’s editorial mandates and target audience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior newsroom role
  • Strong newsgathering skills and a passion for mentoring and developing young journalists
  • Proven organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capability to work independently while leading a local on-the-ground team
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to make confident, decisive editorial decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills and a positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Commitment to excellence and innovation in daily news production
  • Must be eligible to legally work in Canada

Anchor/Senior Journalist

ABOUT THE POSITION

MCA Media Group is seeking a dynamic and experienced television presenter with a proven ability to connect with and engage audiences. As Anchor/Senior Journalist, you will work closely with the News Director, producers, and writers to deliver high-quality local and national news on-camera each weekday. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled communicator passionate about storytelling and journalism.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct robust news gathering and interviews to ensure comprehensive coverage
  • Collaborate effectively with the News Director, producers, and fellow team members, providing valuable input and feedback
  • Represent the organization professionally in the community and online, serving as a trusted voice in the ‘public square’
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the organization’s editorial mandates and target audience
  • Develop and maintain a broad network of professional contacts

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in an on-air role
  • Exceptional vocal delivery and a polished, professional on-camera presence
  • Strong commitment to excellence, a proactive attitude, and a team-oriented mindset
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
