Fort Macleod is celebrating its 150th anniversary. For this special event, the town has organized a number of activities for the community to enjoy. Agricultural shows, rodeos, farmer markets, barbecues, a concert and community church services are all part of the celebration. A town councilor says activities began yesterday and will continue until July 1st. She says what makes this event special is that not only the local Fort Macleod community attends but also others from across southern Alberta. Fort Macleod’s history goes back to its days as a barracks for the North-West Mounted Police that was set-up in the late 19th century to deter American whiskey traders.
