Fire codes in Alberta and Lethbridge
Fire codes exist to protect people in their homes, workplaces, and public places. After the fires in Los Angeles many began thinking about building codes. The Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services Chief, Troy Hicks, says there are federal buildings, and federal fire codes. Hick also says each province develops its own codes based on the federal code. He explains how the process works in Alberta and in Lethbridge. According to Statistics Canada, the National Fire Code establishes fire protection requirements for the safe use and maintenance of buildings, including references to design and construction.
