FIFA Women’s World Cup serves as an inspiration for young female soccer players

Many could say that the FIFA Women’s World cup serves as an inspiration for young female soccer players to pursue the sport professionally. An official with the Servus Sports Centre in Lethbridge, who has been actively involved in women’s soccer, says seeing professional female athletes play helps to inspire the young players even more.

“I think the women’s side has really grown in the competitive side of things throughout Canada. But it’s names like your Christine Sinclair and your Stephanie Labbe and those ones that visit different clubs and then to actually be able to watch them on TV. It kind of, I guess, entices them to try the sport or to push themselves to succeed at the level that they could close.”

Lauzon says she has been an advocate of female soccer having coached the competitive LFC team for ten years and thinks the games are very inspirational for girls to get involved in the sport.
