Downtown Enforcement Project targets crime and drug use

As part of an enforcement initiative targeting crime, disorder, and open drug use downtown, the Lethbridge Police Service arrested 32 people and seized illicit substances.

The project is one of several operations conducted throughout the year involving both uniformed and covert officers.

Sgt. Ryan Darroch, lead of the Downtown Policing Unit, says while methamphetamine and fentanyl use remains high, overall crime-related behaviour downtown has decreased as a result of ongoing enforcement efforts.

In addition to open drug use, police executed 74 warrants, seized methamphetamine and fentanyl, recovered a stolen vehicle and laid 11 criminal charges.
