Division Family Gathering focuses on Blackfoot language and games

As we celebrate National Indigenous History Month in Canada, the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division held their second annual Division Family Gathering on Wednesday evening. The get together was a chance for members of the community to learn about the Blackfoot language and traditional games. A support worker with the division says a lot of the games played were lost through colonialism.

“The hardest one is being first and second generation removed from residential school. And, I mean, there’s always apologies, but I think there needs to be things that are more deeper than just apologies. And with that is actually having creating space for our people to learn about the game games that have been lost through colonialism and to be able to learn the language too close.”

The gathering also had a great turnout, with dozens participating in the games.
