Cross functional task force discussed at city council

The Downtown BRZ is hoping to collaborate with the city to implement a cross functional task force to help address the high crime in the city. The motion was brought up during city council Tuesday as the BRZ are expressed concerns lawlessness happening in the downtown and its ongoing impacts. Acting Mayor John Middleton-Hope says the task force, to start, will only focus on one area of the city.  

“Displacement is a byproduct of action. Inaction also creates additional problems. So to start, it is very much focused on the downtown core. However, I anticipate that it will expand as more partners participate in this process.”

The motion will be back in council on December 12th.
